NKOTBSB: ANATOMY OF A HOME RUN
Outside of the players involved, few envisioned what a blockbuster combining pop phenoms New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys could be. Sure, they both have histories marked by multi-platinum album sales, massive radio hits, and sold out tours, but pop fans are notoriously fickle and these two popular groups emerged in different eras. Conventional wisdom was blown to pieces as NKOTBSB sold out arenas and stadiums, moved more than 500,000 tickets, and emerged as one of the sleeper tours of 2011. Beyond that, the unique staging and presentation, which fully integrated the hits and performances of the two groups, proved to be a sensation and changed the paradigm for co-headlining tours. Key players will discuss the strategic moves in the set-up, launch, and execution of one of the most creative tour concepts in pop music history.

WHY ARE FESTIVALS KICKING ASS?

CLUBS: SOLIDIFYING THEIR ROLE IN THE NEW WORLD ORDER

Clubs have for decades been the primary breeding ground for growing the superstars of tomorrow. This is where fans and bands find out who has the goods on stage and passionate followings are united. As label marketing budgets shrink, clubs can be even more important to artists at all stages of their careers. But this sector of the business faces many challenges, from saturation of unproven ticket sellers in the marketplace to the growth of festivals as prolific buyers of developing- but meaningful- bands.

The growth in live entertainment marketing is outpacing the general sector because live music brings passionate, highly-engaged fans that often turn out to be loyal consumers. But not just any tour, artist, building, or event will do, these must be true partnerships that not only raise the profile of the artists, events and brands, but also target specific consumers and provide added-value to the fans. From world tour deals to major festivals to key relationships with baby bands, the decision-makers in this dynamic space will tell what it takes to make these partnerships work, how to acquire them, and how content and social media are playing important roles in the decision making process.

KEYNOTE: THE PERRY FARRELL Q&A
Music pioneer and Lollapalooza/Jane's Addiction co-founder Perry Farrell will take part in whats sure to be a fascinating Q&A session with Billboard Executive Editor Bill Werde. While Farrell is perhaps best known for this vision with Lollapalooza, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, his views on the music business remain controversial and cutting edge. The artist is enjoying a particularly creative and productive period these days, having just launched Lolla Chile earlier this year and released the first Jane's Addiction album in eight years in "The Great Escape Artist," followed by more touring from the incendiary live act. In 2012, Lolla will return to Chicago and Santiago, Chile, and debut in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Farrell always has plenty on his mind, and we'll talk about whatever he wants.

4:15pm - 5:30pm
